11 GOOD REASONS FOR SAVING AN OLD PHONE
Last week, while rummaging through my drawers, I dug up an old phone, which to say "old school" is little. You see it in the picture below, it's a Nokia 1110.I immediately tried to connect it and - I must say to my surprise - it started working perfectly again 😉. So, I decided to take a test: abandon my smartphone for a week and rediscover the thrill of using a 10-year-old phone: no internet, no WhatsApp, no Facebook, nothing short.
At the end of this week in the "90s" style, I must say that the advantages compared to the so-called "smart phones" are more than those I would have expected. Here are 11 good reasons to go back to using old generation phones:
1) REDUCE THE INTERRUPTIONS
Inevitably, even if you decide to ignore chat ringtones or light signals that your smartphone sends you when someone writes to you, these stimuli catch your attention while you are doing other activities, and irreparably interrupt your concentration stream. With an old phone you only receive text messages and phone calls, and you can dedicate yourself to other activities without being disturbed every 5 minutes.
2) YOU HAVE LESS DISTRACTIONS.
Why do we look at our smartphones dozens of times a minute, even when we're at home, and we might as well consult the mail or read the news from our desktop computer? I believe this trend is due to the "visual" component that smartphones give us access to, which is totally missing from older generation phones. This visual component, which is now also part of the chats (populated by emoticons, images and photos), gives us the feeling of accessing an "emotional" reality in which we are constantly called to participate. Although this aspect may also have positive aspects, it necessarily involves unnecessary distractions in our everyday life. By "cutting you off" from this emotional reality, an old phone allows you to experience the moments of the day with less distractions and therefore in a more intense and "realistically emotional" way.
3) YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE EMPLOYMENT OF THE WORK AND TO THE REQUESTS OF YOUR HEAD
Although no one forces you to respond to work emails outside office hours, only the ability to access them from home or during leisure time is a significant stress factor. With an old phone, eliminate the problem at the root.
4) MAKES YOUR LIFE SAFER
With an old phone you will no longer give in to the temptation to read messages as you cross the street and so you can finally see if someone is about to hit you!
5) MAKES YOU APPEAR A MORE "NORMAL" PERSON
You will finally stop taking selfies while you are in line at the post office or while you are waiting for lunch at the restaurant.
6) SAVE ENERGY
It's proven: my 10-year-old Nokia battery lasts up to 3 consecutive days - and even more if you don't use the built-in flashlight - against the 20 hours of a brand-new nexus 5. Obviously, the longer battery life depends on the extremely limited features of the old phone, which therefore consume even less. However, deciding to forgo certain features also has its advantages: in addition to saving energy, it will also be difficult to suddenly run dry with your battery while you are traveling, and when you book a table in a restaurant you will not necessarily have to request one near the socket.
7) REDISCOVER THE PLEASURE OF GEOGRAPHY
Always to stay on the subject of travel, another advantage determined by the use of an old phone is that you can rediscover the pleasure of consulting a road atlas during journeys or journeys in the city that you do not know. We are so used to using the navigator even when we could easily do without it, that in the long run we risk losing our orientation skills. With an old phone we can go back to training them!
8) REDUCE TIME WASTE.
Have you ever had access to the internet to look for something specific, but to have forgotten it immediately after having succumbed to the "temptation" of giving a little glance at Facebook? I bet yes. With an old phone, as long as you normally waste time on social networks or chat, you can dedicate it to something more beautiful and constructive: reading a book, taking care of your plants, or even just thinking ... in short, living.
9) YOU HAVE A MORE SORRY TO AVOID THE MOWER.
If you don't want to reply to a message, or you forget to do it, you can always make the excuse of not having received it ... who knows, maybe because your phone is old and unreliable ...?
10) DO NOT RISK TO DIRTY THE SCREEN.
You can write a message and call even while you're eating without fear of greasing the phone monitor.
11) YOU CAN USE IT AS A "VENT VALVE" ...
That desire to launch the phone against the unattainable wall due to the keepcalm consequences
Have you ever experienced such a feeling? I bet yes. If the phone call ends badly, with an old phone you can even allow yourself the luxury of throwing it on the floor or against the wall (perhaps without hurting anyone): you won't scratch it and it will continue to work perfectly. In any case it is good not to overdo it!
Very probably after this praise I will return to using my modern and multifunctional smartphone anyway, but I will do it in a different, more aware way. The experience made this week has been revealing in several respects.
And you? Have you ever done such a test? Do you have any other good reasons that we could add to the list? Leave a comment to tell us about your experience!
